Whales of Guerrero’s mission is to connect people with nature through programs that inspire and support environmental stewardship. Our most central conversation piece is marine mammals and particularly whales! Since we began working in Guerrero back in 2013, we discovered that a small, genetically distinct group of humpback whales travels to our beautiful beach to calve, nurse their young and mate every winter. We partner with guides, fishermen, women and the entire extended community to study and protect these whales and the other 15 species of marine mammals we have identified in our region so far. We do this through safe whale watch training programs, developing and supporting responsible ecotourism opportunities, programs, events, clubs and presentations that reach 2500+ kids region wide every year and more. Whales of Guerrero is community-driven and community-led, meaning we follow the lead of the communities we work with to determine what our priorities will be each year as an organization and how we can best work together to create situations where the ocean is healthy and our coastal community thrives. When the whales win, everyone wins!
